Flowers, flowers everywhere...

Now that I've finished moving I can turn my full attention to one of my bigger obsessions: gardening. I've scoured almost every corner of the Bailey farm in search of what some folks would term junk, but what I call treasures. Mary and Dick (Scott's parents) took me out in one of the little sheds that dot their property and we had a hey day digging through stuff that would make good planting containers or garden ornamentation. I found old metal stools, enamelware, rusty wagons, an old handled tool box, and my very favorite a little metal chick house that now sits on our deck.

The chick house has proven pretty useful in keeping things away from Maya, a big floppy golden lab. Maya has a bad reputation around our house, but really, she's not so bad. Her enthusiasm is a bit overwhelming sometimes and she tends to offend folks by displaying it a little to exuberantly. But she always jumps off Mary and Dick's little back deck and lopes along beside my car as I pass their house on my way home, and is there to meet me when I get out of the car to go into the house. I usually get out of the car prepared to do a little petting all the while reminding he not to jump on or, for the love of Mike, please don't slobber on me.

She also has a bad habit of snitching things that don't belong to her. Last night Scott took the sprayer of the hose end so I could put a kinder, gentler spray nozzle on that wouldn't blast the soil out of the flower pots when I went to water them. He finally got the old spray nozzle off with a lot of grunting and what may have been a little mumbled swearing and a GIANT pair of pliers. When I went to get the new nozzle I couldn't find it anywhere. I made the mistake of leaving it on the deck after I brought it from the old house, and I'm sure Maya took it off to some corner of the property and it won't be seen again until one of the guys runs it over with the lawn mower. So I have now stuffed all of my little bits in the chick house so in the future whey will be safe from Maya the Marauder.

Oh, and p.s: I also found a giant paw print right in the middle of one of my flower pots on the edge of the deck. I have no idea what she might have been up to there.

Whew!

It's finally JUST ABOUT OVER! We officially took the last of my stuff out of the house last night. Bye, good old house! It's such a relief. I still want to go back to get some of the plants from my yard so I can share with Scott's mom and maybe move a few to the Newburg house, and I would like to get back sometime this summer and paint. But now I have a brief amount of time where I can think of fun, crafty and gardening things to do.

Speaking of crafty, how cute are these totes? I found them over on Everyday Beauty. She has inspired me to try some of this myself. Who needs a tote?? How fun would it be to have them bag groceries into that cute bag?? I think we will all need at least a couple!!

The Moving Blues

I honestly never guessed I had so much stuff. I think that you really can't imagine how much stuff you have until you start carrying it out of the attic, down a flight of stairs, and out to a UHaul truck. We filled that sucker up twice, and then once in Scott's truck and once for my poor little Hyundai. And we're going back tonight. Somebody anesthesize me.
The third stall of Scott's dad's shop is filled to bursting with my life's accumulations, and he is worried the roof is going to leak on them. Yesterday when the wind was gusting at about 25 mph he was planning on climbing up on the steep metal roof of the shop and painting it with tar to stop it from leaking. Oh. My. Goodness. The man has done enough. Thankfully he didn't have the right stuff to do it with and when he did go to the lumber store in town the can said to let it dry for 24 to 36 hours. Since rain was in the forecast for last night he couldn't go up on the roof to stop the leaks in the near gale force winds. He and Scott went out and put tarps over all the stuff in the stall and I pronounced it just fine. Thank heaven for small mercies.
The house drama goes on and I got word from my bank that the appraiser won't be able to finish the appraisal report for three weeks as I suppose he is just as busy with the refinance boom as everyone else. So now we just wait. Everyone should keep their fingers crossed!
I can't wait to shock you all with the before pictures of the house in Newburg. It really is in bad shape, my dream house! ; )
More later!
Oh! and p.s. there is no way in h-e-double hockey sticks that I am ever painting a wood floor white again. I will be scrubbing the white painted wood floors at my house in IC tonight before putting a touch up coat on. How could I have forgotten what a pain they were to keep clean??!

Ugh

We're sore, tired and sick of moving. But we're gonna keep plugging away. Scott and I are about to go unload the first truckload and then head back to IC for the second one. He's my superman! We lost our help yesterday because we couldn't pick up the truck from UHaul until 1:30 and the folks we had to pitch in had stuff to do at 1:00. They are still great friends though! Scot and Cathy volunteered to help even though they are putting on an addition to their house and have four kids who they were going to have a babysitter come stay with while they were moving us. Really, friends like that don't grow on trees!
The end is near and after Monday we'll be done!!!

Third house post

from dreamhouse
The drama of the new house continues. The finance world is all a-snarl since October of last year and getting the loan you want is much more complicated than it used to be. I won't bore you with all the details, but keep your fingers crossed for us while I continue to cajole and get creative with the folks in the bank world. How about I do some more day dreaming for now?

I'm so excited about this house because Scott and I will be fixing it up together in order to make a home for ourselves. He's being very accomodating as far as my tastes go. He's just an agreeable guy in general.

So anyway, the general theme I'm thinking of is an airy country sort of look based on creams, light greens and blues. Here's some Haeger pottery I have my eye on at ebay. I love this stuff and have a small collection of it in cream colors, but would like to get some more in the blues and greens. We also talked last night about putting wainscoating around the kitchen, living and dining rooms. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! Please forgive in advance for future posts where I ramble on about what I want to do with the house......

yea!!!

They accepted my offer! Whoopee! A new project!

The waiting game

I'm still waiting to hear about the loan for the house in Newburg. It's not so easy to get a loan anymore, even if you have 25% to put down on the purchase price of the house. My dad gave me a pep talk last night though and told me that if I didn't like what I was hearing to go ask someone else. So I did, and I'm still waiting to hear back, but it sounds hopeful, so I'm going to continue day dreaming what the interior of the house will look like after I get done with it. Let me post some pics of what I would like the kitchen and dining room to resemble ( I found them here:http://angelattable.blogspot.com/) I know, I know, white floors, but a girl can dream can't she??

New digs

A big active weekend. Scott's son, Dreyson, was with us over the weekend and always such a riot to have around! We had a campfire and roasted wienies (which made Dewey really nervous, he didn't understand!) and made some big giant s'mores. I gave Dreyson the camera and he took lots of pics and made a couple of hilarious movies. I promise to try to post those later, although with dial up being all that we have at Scott's house, it's a long shot!

The biggest news is that I made an offer on the house pictured above. It's in Newburg and has big potential, but also needs to be gutted. I counted the windows when we were looking at it and there are 20 of the suckers and I would guess that 95% of them need to be replaced. There goes a chunk of $$! It's cute though, underneath all of the grime and peeling paint and it has a great yard. I'll let you know what happens!!

The Great Chicken Debate

I want to keep some chickens. I mean I REALLY want to keep some chickens. I love their antics and their individual personalities and just the general comedy they provide to daily life. Scott, on the otherhand thinks we should buy our eggs at the store. Something about chickens being smelly and inconvenient, I'm sure I wasn't really listening! So, in the special way that women have spent centuries developing to convince their menfolk to do something they don't want to do, I talk about the henhouse he's going to build for me someday how sturdy and well built it will be, how much our chickens will enjoy living there, and how happy I will be with the henhous that Scott built. All this convincing led to me telling him about the eglu I saw over on the Farm Chicks blog and how cute it was. I explained it to him that we would probably never own one because the cheapest Eglu I saw was over $500 (well over) and then we got to speculating how many eggs you could buy with $500. A lot. What it eventually spiraled into was some very funny (at the time anyway) egg puns. Was I sure that the coop I was describing was eggs-actly what the chickens needed, and if he built a nice coop he wasn't sure he wanted chickens eggs-creting all over it. It went on long enough that I fell asleep with a smile and dreamt of chicken coop mansions in the sky. I'm sure Delta Dawn kept chickens.

Here's some chicken fun to put a smile on your face: http://www.hencam.com/inside.php

The chickens in the tree are in Yelapa, Mexico just south of Puerto Vallarta.
