Now we're really ready
I thought we were ready to bring the babies home when we had the crib, the car seats and the bassinet. But now I see that I was wrong. There was no way we could have brought the little boogers home if they weren't wearing the bitty onesies above that say: an original Scott and Leslie production © 2010. Perfect. Yumminess
So, I've been shopping for kids' clothes, you know, since I'm having a couple. There is some seriously beautimous stuff out there! Let's start with this:
I think it could be sewn for a little guy (Scott doesn't seem so sure) but I secretly want to sew this version first:
Don't judge me.
Obviously not for everyday, but very sweet, and you should see her other stuff. A big plus for her is that she also has some boy stuff too.
Cute boy stuff is hard to find! Really hard to find, plus, I'm no expert at boys, most of my previous experience being with girls and all, but I'm guessing that boys will start protesting cute shortly into the whole game. Eden's bouquet seems to get that. Oh, and side note: little boy's daddies start subtly cutting cute off at the knees pretty early on too. :) Love you, honey!

You've all heard me rave about Joyfolie (formerly Mia Joie)
She doesn't do a whole lot of boy stuff, a few pairs of shoes for little guys, but personally I'm willing to forgive her because she makes these gorgeous little numbers. She also has clothing and accessories that are very nummy too.

I mostly concentrate on patterns and fabrics at Etsy, because while I am totally in love with the above vendors I can't afford to clothe my kids this way exclusively (although I wish I was rich if only for this reason!), and am going to have to rely on some of my inherent creative ingenuity to get the job done. Tee hee. If you all aren't laughing, you really should be.
Click on these patterns to be taken to the Etsy websites where they are sold. And, as I have pointed out before, not much for boys out there! The smartie pants and the britches and bloomers both have options for boys though, so I'm not forgetting my little guy completely in this celebration of ruffles and lace! And then there's this pattern from Heidi and Finn :

Another Milestone
Our amniocentesis results are finally here, both of them. I won't keep you in suspense, everything's fine, more than fine, it's wonderful! Both babies have the normal amount of chromosomes, "look" genetically normal, and neither of them have spina bifida. I can't really explain what a relief this was. We knew we were having these babies no matter what the results came back as and we would be loving them to pieces no matter what, but the journey here has been a long one, to say the least.
I know that some of you have been in this journey with me during the long haul, but many of you haven't. Scott and I had to do IVF (invitro fertilization) to have these babies. One day back in December I went to my first appointment in the Women's Health Clinic here at UIHC where I work. I thought I would get some simple advice about what I needed to do in order to increase our chances of conception. A couple of hours later I left the clinic devastated and in tears. My chances of conception were very slim, they were basically nil if Scott and I choose to go the natural route. Our best chance was to try IVF and to start immediately. My chances still were around 10 to 15% of conceiving this way. I wanted to give up.
I really didn't think I could face the challenge, the possible wrenching heartbreak of trying to conceive this way, and most of all the enormous possibility of failure. Scott consoled me very gently, letting me know that whatever happened would be the right thing for us, and then let me know that if I tried he would be there every step of the way. Thank god for Scott. If he wasn't there for me every step of the way, learning how to give injections, calming me down when I felt crazy from hormone overload, and just loving me, we would not be sharing the joy of the coming birth of our twins with all of you. And it is a joy. A miracle of science, hope and perseverance.
Thank you Scott for encouraging me to face this challenge. And thank you, thank you, thank you to Dr. Steggman, Dr Mains, and all the wonderful staff in the IVF clinic at UIHC.

WIP and a finished one!
Sorry for the bad picture. But I'm lazy today! I finished the blue blanket on Sunday, it's a simple little thing but sooooo soft. The solid blue side of the quilt is a fabric called minky which is a super fine chenille type fabric that is super cozy, and the printed fabric is from the Aviary line. It's been in my stash for awhile just waiting to be put to some perfect little girl use. :) The second quilt is a 1940s line which I've forgotten the name of, hopefully someone will pop by and remind me what it's called. I got to use some ric rac though which was very fun, and the polka dot fabric on the sashing shows my love for dotty things! I will be done with that one soon and then I can get started on the fabric I have coming. I only have so many months to get all this done ya know! (my flowers are suffering from all my baby crafting)PS. remember this post from way back when?: Snippets
That's the fabric from the second quilt. :)

New books!
I love kid's books. Love them! If I am swinging through a consignment store it's always one of the first sections I stop at. I've picked up quite a few so far, and here are some of my newest purchases:

I also have a few of the Cows that Type series, the Olivia books, and of course Dr. Seuss! I believe that adults should be able to have just as much fun reading to kids as kids do being read to. I'd love suggestions for great reads for kids! Reading to them and with them will be one of the most important things Scott and I do.....
xoxo!
